Abstract
The study investigated the prospects for socio-economic development amid insurgency in North-East Nigeria. The aim of the study was to examine the potential pathways for socio-economic recovery and growth in the region, despite the ongoing Boko Haram insurgency. The scope of the study covered the period from 2009 to 2023, focusing on economic and social development indicators in states severely affected by the insurgency, including Borno, Yobe, and Adamawa. The study adopted a mixed-methods methodology, combining qualitative interviews with key stakeholders such as local government officials, security experts, and community leaders, with quantitative data from development reports and economic surveys. The theoretical framework of the study was based on the Post-Conflict Recovery Model, which explores strategies for rebuilding and sustaining socio-economic systems after violent conflict. The findings of the study revealed that, despite the challenges posed by insurgency, there are several opportunities for development, including the reintegration of displaced populations, leveraging regional natural resources, and strengthening local governance. The study concluded that with targeted interventions and sustained peace efforts, North-East Nigeria could rebuild its socio-economic systems and foster long-term development. Therefore, the study recommended that stakeholders prioritize peacebuilding, invest in infrastructure, and promote inclusive economic policies to enhance resilience and stimulate recovery in the region.
