Abstract
This study, "Resilience and Recovery: Prospects for Socio-Economic Development Amid Boko Haram Insurgency in West Africa," investigates the socio-economic consequences of Boko Haram's insurgency in the Lake Chad Basin, focusing on Nigeria, Cameroon, Chad, and Niger. The study adopts a mixed-methods approach, combining qualitative and quantitative research, to offer a comprehensive understanding of the impact of the insurgency on local communities. The theoretical framework incorporates Social Capital Theory, the Human Security Framework, and Resilience Theory. The findings reveal that the erosion of social capital, particularly through displacement, has significantly hindered recovery, while regions with stronger social cohesion, such as Chad, have shown better resilience outcomes. Furthermore, the study highlights how Boko Haram's actions have disrupted livelihoods, essential services, and regional governance, exacerbating poverty, food insecurity, and displacement. In conclusion, the study emphasizes the need for multi-dimensional recovery strategies focusing on strengthening governance, rebuilding social capital, and enhancing human security. Therefore, the study recommends coordinated interventions, including humanitarian aid, long-term development efforts, and regional peacebuilding initiatives to foster sustainable recovery and socio-economic development.
